1) Application procedure in Germany

As a rule, the application process begins in your home country. A national visa is usually required for entry to study. This must be applied for at the responsible German mission abroad. Because of the war in Ukraine, the application process can start directly from Germany, but note that you have to finance yourself in the period up to and after the residence permit is issued.

a) Contacting the local immigration authorities / submitting the application for a residence permit (personal appearance required)

The initial issue of a residence permit for students costs EUR 100.

b) Contacting the residents' registration office/city office (registration certificate) by submitting the following documents:

    Identity card, passport, certificate from a landlord about accommodation

2) Issuance of the residence permit

After the application has been submitted to the immigration authorities, the residence permit is usually issued within 6-8 weeks. After the application process is completed, an electronic residence card will be issued within 4 weeks. However, you have the right to reside in Germany immediately after submitting your application.
